How Can Your Living Space Affect Your Mood?

How Can Your Living Space Affect Your Mood?

Welcome to 2022! A year full of possibilities and a year that right now feels a bit grey. If you’re feeling a general sense of “Ugh” about being stuck in your home, why not try changing it up a bit? Here are six suggestions for changing your home to improve your mood.

1. Paint

All of our suggestions usually involve painting. It is one of the cheapest ways to change your home dramatically. Most paint stores have free design consultation services. Try to avoid doing all white. Use warm tones throughout your living spaces. Paint your dining room ceiling dark grey. You’ll love it. We promise.

2. New Light Fixtures

Light fixtures can be pretty inexpensive and add a lot of texture to your room.

3. Change Your Light Bulbs

I know. This sounds elementary. But the quality of the ambient light in your home does affect your overall mood. Try to find soft white or warmer-toned bulbs. The bright white LEDs can be off-putting at night.

4. Rearrange Your Furniture

This can significantly impact your mood because our brains like change. Instead of doing all your tasks automatically, you’ll need to be more mindful when walking from room to room. This kind of attention to detail can be calming.

5. Declutter

Minimalism has had its moment and seems to be on the way out. That doesn’t mean we all need to go straight back clutter. A clean desk, organized bookshelves, and folded clothing in your drawers will leave you feeling much more peaceful as you go through your day.

6. Buy a New House

If all else fails, it’s time to move! Only sort of joking. But, call us if you want a new home. 🙂

I also acknowledge that it is a privilege to be in our homes these days. We extend a big thank you to the health care workers in this city who are working harder than ever outside of their safe homes. We owe you a huge debt.

As always, stay safe. — Robyn Vander Vennen, The Kim Kehoe Team.
